The Silver Spur Ranch Charolais herd dates back to the 1950’s. At that time, Ol Jim York managed the ranch and he incorporated many of the values that still hold true today for the Charolais herd… fertility, soundness and performance. Much of today’s Silver Spur Charolais herd evolved from the DeBruycker cow herd in Montana. Our focus is to produce stout ended, deep, sound Charolais bulls that will add pounds while maintaining moderate birth weights and carcass value. We expect our replacement females to calve as two year olds and be low input females.
Each year we select a set of herdsires for the Silver Spur Registered and Commercial herds. Annually, Silver Spur Ranch markets or retains ownership of several thousand head of Charolais sired calves. The retained ownership option enables us to recognize the genetic value of our sires in multiple segments of the beef industry. By utilizing Silver Spur Charolais sires in each segment of our operation, we are able to provide our bull customers with genetics we can say are TRIED and PROVEN.
